Exploring Japan's Summer
Summer in Japan is a highly underrated time of year. While most associate the country with extreme heat, there are also many unique activities that can only be experienced during the warmer months of the year, like hiking Mount Fuji and exploring festivals.
The rings of wind chimes, the buzz of local festivals, and the spectacle of the fireworks. Japan’s summers have an atmosphere about them that doesn’t compare to other seasons. While the day-to-day may not change much for many residents, the air, while noticeably hotter, feels lighter. Much of this can be due to the many holidays, festivals, and the intentional time created to be outside.
With both Umi no Hi (Marine Day) and Yama no Hi (Mountain Day) occurring in July and August, respectively, Japanese culture makes a point to pay tribute to nature. We also believe that Japanese summers are best spent outdoors, escaping much of the city's bustle and away from Tokyo’s concrete jungle.
